Over 1.3 million citizens received free medicines in nine months
According to the Ministry of Health, more than 1.3 million citizens received free medicines under the reimbursement program in January–September 2026; the state reimbursed 248.2 billion soums.
According to the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan, 1,312,748 citizens received free outpatient medicines under the reimbursement program during January–September 2026. The program is aimed at patients who need continuous treatment for chronic diseases.
How the program works
Reimbursement works in three stages: a family doctor issues an electronic prescription, the patient collects the medicine free of charge at a contracted pharmacy, and the state then reimburses the pharmacy for the cost. Funding comes from the State Health Insurance Fund under the mandatory state medical insurance reform.
The numbers
Over nine months the fund allocated 248.2 billion soums, 5.9 million electronic prescriptions were issued, and about 28 types of medicine were dispensed free of charge on family-doctor prescriptions. The volume dispensed in September was 52% higher than in January. On average, about 189,000 soums were spent per person.
By region
The largest allocations went to the city of Tashkent (48.1 billion soums), followed by Samarkand (43.5 billion), Bukhara (35 billion) and Khorezm (32.6 billion soums) regions.
Expansion from 2027
Under a Cabinet of Ministers resolution, the reimbursement list will be expanded to 69 medicines from 1 January 2027. The updated list covers drugs for oncological, mental-health, cardiovascular, endocrine and other chronic conditions.
