Strike on a Gaza City apartment building kills at least five Palestinians
Palestinian health and civil-defence officials say an early-Saturday Israeli strike on a residential building in Gaza City killed at least five people, four of them women, as the ceasefire holds only on paper.

According to Palestinian health and civil-defence officials, an Israeli airstrike on a residential building in Gaza City early on 3 October 2026 killed at least five Palestinians, four of them women. The report was carried by Reuters and Al-Monitor.
Other strikes that day
The Associated Press (via Arab News) reported that other strikes in Gaza City and central Gaza killed three more people that day. The Israeli military gave no immediate comment to Al-Monitor; AP said the military acknowledged strikes, saying it was hitting "militants" without elaborating. Whether the dead were civilians or militants has not been independently verified.
The numbers
According to Reuters/Al-Monitor, at least about 1,400 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire since the October 2025 ceasefire, while four Israeli soldiers have been killed by militants over the same period. More than 74,000 Palestinians have been reported killed since the offensive began.
Ceasefire status
The US-brokered ceasefire (October 2025) is nominally in effect but frayed — holding on paper while Israeli strikes continue. Next-phase talks on Hamas disarmament and an Israeli withdrawal have stalled.
Fouad Al-Najjar, who lost relatives in the Gaza City strike, said: "Today is essentially the worst day of my life. I lost my mother and my grandmother today" (Reuters/Al-Monitor, 3 October).
