Uzbekistan plans to restore monuments linked to Uzbek scholars in Afghanistan
A delegation of Uzbekistan's Agency of Cultural Heritage studied historical sites linked to Uzbek scholars and thinkers in four Afghan provinces — Balkh, Takhar, Sar-e Pul and Faryab. A cooperation memorandum with Afghanistan's Ministry of Information and Culture is planned.

Uzbekistan is considering joint projects with Afghanistan to preserve and restore historical monuments linked to Uzbek scholars and thinkers, following a field study of heritage sites in Afghanistan by an Uzbek delegation and talks with Afghan counterparts.
What the delegation studied
A delegation led by Azizjon Aripjonov, Deputy Director of Uzbekistan's Agency of Cultural Heritage, assessed the condition of historical sites in four Afghan provinces — Balkh, Takhar, Sar-e Pul and Faryab. Uzbekistan's Consul General in Mazar-i-Sharif, Jafar Fattahov, also took part in the meetings.
Which monuments
The sites studied include the Rawza-i-Mubarak mausoleum in Mazar-i-Sharif, the shrine of the poet Boborahim Mashrab in Takhar, historic brick bridges, mosques and madrasas in Sar-e Pul, and historic structures in the Andkhoy district of Faryab. The Bobo Vali water reservoir, linked to the charitable activity of the poet Alisher Navoi, was also recorded.
Next step
After the collected materials are analysed, a cooperation memorandum is planned between Uzbekistan's Agency of Cultural Heritage and Afghanistan's Ministry of Information and Culture. The aim of the project is to jointly preserve the cultural and historical heritage common to the two countries.
