Uzbekistan Puts Businessman Muminjon Yuldashev on Interpol's Wanted List
A Red Notice was issued for the former chairman of Madad Invest Bank's supervisory board over an alleged large-scale embezzlement charge. The allegation is unproven in court.

At the request of Uzbekistan's law-enforcement agencies, Interpol has issued a Red Notice for businessman Muminjon Yuldashev. Several Uzbek outlets reported this on 20 September.
A Red Notice is not a conviction
An Interpol Red Notice does not establish guilt. It is an international request to locate a wanted person and provisionally detain them pending an extradition request. The charge against Yuldashev has not been proven in court.
What is the charge
According to the sources, he is charged under Article 167, Part 3 of Uzbekistan's Criminal Code — embezzlement on an especially large scale. The statutory penalty ranges from 5 to 10 years' imprisonment. No specific embezzled sum is stated by the sources.
Who he is
Muminjon Yuldashev, born in 1976 in the Fergana region, is an entrepreneur who was formerly chairman of the supervisory board and a major shareholder of Madad Invest Bank, with interests in construction, textiles and finance.
2019: World Bank debarment
In 2019 the World Bank debarred Yuldashev and linked companies from its financed projects. Per the Bank, the reason was pressuring the representative of a competing bidder and colluding with officials in a Syrdarya region water-supply tender (World Bank press release, 8 July 2019).
