Kyrgyzstan Is Building Its First GDP-Compliant State Pharmaceutical Warehouse
On 16 September 2026, construction began in Bishkek of the country's first GDP-standard state pharmaceutical warehouse and logistics complex for Kyrgyzpharmatsiya. Total investment is 650 million som.

Kyrgyzstan is building its first modern state pharmaceutical warehouse and logistics complex. Construction began in Bishkek on 16 September 2026 — it is the country's first GDP-compliant (Good Distribution Practice) state warehouse, intended for the state enterprise Kyrgyzpharmatsiya (under the Ministry of Health).
How did construction begin?
A foundation and capsule-laying ceremony was held. Prime Minister Adylbek Kasymaliev launched the construction, and Minister of Health Damirbek Osmonov attended the event.
The complex operates to the international GDP standard — the storage, handling, and transport of medicines.
Why is the complex needed?
The complex is intended to centralize the nationwide storage and distribution of medicines. This includes oncology and cardiology drugs that previously could not be supplied due to inadequate storage.
The new complex provides cold-chain storage from −20°C to −80°C. In addition, 12 specialized transport vehicles were purchased to carry medicines.
Import dependence
97 percent of the pharmaceutical market is imported — domestic production accounts for about 3 percent. According to 2022 data, the share of counterfeit and smuggled medicines was estimated at 30–40 percent.
The state medicine budget for 2026 is 6.8 billion som (~$77.8 million) — a significant increase from 100 million som (~$1.1 million) in 2021. Medicine imports for 2025 are projected at about 34 billion som (~$389 million).
Future plans
A unified state digital platform for pharmaceutical traceability — from supplier to medical facility — is planned.
The rented warehouses did not ensure the storage of drugs at temperatures from minus 20 to minus 80 degrees, which is important for the preservation of certain medications.
