Uzbekistan's Supreme Court updated its list of banned extremist online sources and materials on November 3, 2026. The updated list records a total of 2,057 sources, up by 142 from 1,915 in July 2026. The list is published through the court's official Telegram channel and is updated regularly.

What is on the list

According to the Supreme Court, most of the banned sources are on social media: 967 Telegram channels and groups, 454 Instagram accounts, 276 Facebook pages, 214 YouTube channels and videos, 68 on TikTok, 44 on Odnoklassniki and 1 on Threads. In addition, 13 websites or web pages and 20 other materials — such as books, songs, poems and lectures — were included.

The nature of the ban

Material containing religious-extremist, terrorist and sectarian ideas is added to the list. Importing, producing, storing, distributing and publicly displaying such material in Uzbekistan is prohibited. It should be noted that this is mainly a register of banned materials rather than a technical website-blocking list — only 13 of the 2,057 entries are actual websites.

Legal basis and penalties

The ban rests on the Law on Countering Extremism. Article 244-1 of the Criminal Code provides for up to eight years of imprisonment for preparing, storing or distributing extremist material, while Article 244-3 sets administrative fines and confiscation of equipment for the unlawful distribution of religious material, with criminal liability on repeat offences.

Who maintains it

The list of banned online sources is published by the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan; courts, together with relevant state bodies, take part in designating materials as extremist. The Ministry of Justice separately maintains an open electronic register of extremist materials. California Uzbek reports the event strictly within confirmed official information.
