Putin caps cash rubles taken out of Russia; Uzbekistan is on the list
Under the new decree, an individual may not take more than 1 million rubles (about $12,300) in cash from Russia to Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan and EAEU states; for legal entities, exporting cash rubles is banned regardless of amount.

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree limiting the export of cash rubles from the country. The document entered into force on the day it was signed, September 29.
The new rule
Under the decree, an individual may not take more than 1 million rubles (about $12,300) in cash out of Russia to member states of the Eurasian Economic Union, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. For legal entities and individual entrepreneurs, exporting cash rubles to these countries is banned regardless of the amount.
There is an exception: an individual may export more than 1 million rubles in cash through international airport checkpoints if they hold a bank statement covering the full amount. Money withdrawn from one's own bank account is also exempt.
What changed
Previously the threshold for individuals was far higher — about $100,000 — and Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan were not covered. The new decree adds exactly these countries to the list.
