At a November 2 meeting on labor migration, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev set a goal of raising annual remittances to $50 billion and criticized officials for insufficient support to migrants.

On November 2, 2026, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev set a goal of raising annual remittances to $50 billion at a meeting dedicated to labor migration. According to Gazeta.uz, he said he would not back down from this goal.
The current level
According to the president, migrants working abroad currently send home more than $20 billion a year, largely without state assistance. Gazeta.uz reports that remittances reached $18.9 billion in 2025 — roughly 28 percent more than the previous year.
Criticism of officials
Mirziyoyev criticized state bodies for failing to adequately support labor migrants. He noted that some compatriots earn only $400 a month abroad and demanded that migrants' monthly incomes reach at least $2,000. The president also condemned sending young people abroad without vocational training.
Figures and measures
Official data indicate that about 1.2 million Uzbek citizens work abroad; the state has established formal cooperation with 27 countries and some 400 major employers. Since the start of the year, 1,116,000 citizens have returned from labor migration, and 250,000 of them are to be placed in jobs by year-end. The meeting announced measures including a unified migration center in each region, recruitment of German-language instructors, and transferring several vocational colleges to private management.
